state of the katster

The state of the katster is a rapidly falling apart California.

Oh, wait, I screwed that up again, didn’t I? Well, here it is. I’m…I guess the best word for what I am is okay. It’s not awesome, but it’s not depressingly miserable either. I attribute the fact that it’s not the latter to the fact that I’ve actually, you know, been bothering to take my meds. But it’s not all light and sunshine either, which is a reminder that being happy is tougher than it looks.

Anyway, I’ve been pretty busy. Work’s eating a lot of time, as is doing the Antelope to Rancho to downtown commute. By the time I get home and get dinner cooked, I am *exhausted*. I’m hoping this will ease up a bit when my mother’s job in Rancho ends in the near future.

Baycon was mostly a blast, although there were a few things that could have gone better. I plan to write a full post on this when I get some time to breathe. Also on the writing front is that I need to write a couple of LoCs (letter of comment, for those not up on your fannish acronyms) to a couple fanzines. I also have a couple half-drafted articles on the computer that I need to finish, tighten up, and ship off to the various fanzine editors that are waiting for them.

I desperately need to clean my room, but the chaos is such that the only way to clean it is going to be tearing all the stuff out and putting it back in the room in a semi-rational order. Also, I desperately need to figure out where I can stuff a second bookcase in my room, as I really could use the extra book storage space. Of course, tearing it out is a problem when my whole family is here, so I’m glad my folks and my sis are going camping at the end of the month, giving me the chance to clean that up and lift a weight on my mind. I’m not the world’s neatest person (there’s a reason my mother nicknamed me ‘Hurricane Katrina’ all the way back when I was a young child — that’s the eighties, for those keeping track) but even I think this is too messy.

I’ve been idly pondering starting my own fanzine. Haven’t decided for sure yet, but I’ve been dithering back and forth for a while now. One of the things that makes me a bit nervous about this endeavour is that I’m not sure how to ask folks for contributions, particularly in the art department, because my particular skill has always been writing and my art skills top out at stick figures. Also, I’m trying to figure out the proper balance between paper and electrons — I think most of it will be electrons, but I know there’s folks that prefer paper, and I’d like them to have a chance to read too. Also, there’s the point that paper involves copying costs and postage, which is a strong incentive against doing it all on paper. All these questions, no real answers. But if I do go ahead with this idea, at least I have a title, which is somewhat unusual for a katster project.

Other than that, I can’t think of much else interesting. If you’ve got questions, I’m probably willing to answer them.

And I’ve got a question for all y’all out there in Internet land: Is anybody out there?

I’m here – just lurking in the shadows, as always. :)

What would your fanzine be about?
